Treatment of COVID-19-Related Olfactory Disorder Promoted by Kakkontokasenkyushin’i: A Case Series

Olfactory disorders are one of the characteristic symptoms coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which causes infection and inflammation upper lower respiratory tract. To our knowledge, there no treatments for COVID-19-related olfactory disorder. Here, we report five disorder cases in COVID-19, treated using Japanese traditional (Kampo) medicine, kakkontokasenkyushin’i. We patients with mild COVID-19 at an isolation facility Kampo depending on their symptoms. Patients presented a blocked nose, nasal discharge or taste impairment. Physical examination medicine showed similar findings, such as red tongue spots sublingual vein congestion, blood stasis inflammation; thus, prescribed After administration, numeric rating scale scores smell impairment improved within 3 days from 9 to case 1, 10 0 2, 3, 5 4, 5.
